A good print shop company is the one that provides high quality printed materials for their clients. They offer precise estimating and exceptional customer care. The services offered by a good print shop include business cards, brochures, letterheads and envelopes, newsletters, postcards, flyers and posters, and much more. These printed materials will reflect the image of a company and will increase its customer base.
Historically, printing and publishing were very local, commercial and civic oriented businesses. They tended to locate close to the city’s administrative, corporate and industrial functions in Cleveland’s old downtown commercial area. Because these businesses were primarily commercial, their customers were also commercial or local in nature. As the transportation system improved, there was an expansion of periodical publishing in Cleveland, which also became a focus of regional and national trade and industry magazines, e.g., the Mercantile Record, the American Publishing Co., the Western Reserve Almanac and Webster’s Spelling Book.
There was a surge of new book publishers in the final decade of the 19th century in Cleveland, including Burrows Bros., which began by publishing educational or self-help books, such as shorthand texts, and moved on to religious or other general interest works, e.g., a fine edition of R. D. Blackmore’s Lorna Doone. There were also a number of active small-press or literary/”little” magazine publishers in the city, e.g., the Poetry Center of Cleveland State University (see CLEVELAND STATE POETRY CENTER), which published several chapbooks and anthologies of poets.
Today, the City’s Division of Printing and Reproduction employs a wide range of design, reprographic and mailing systems to produce more than six million documents and process nearly two million pieces of mail annually for over 75 City departments, divisions, boards, bureaus, the Mayor’s Office, Council, and Cleveland Municipal Court. The City is the first municipality to be certified by the Sustainable Green Printer Partnership, and this certification validates the City’s considerable efforts in improving the health and safety of its workers, reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and being accountable to its customers. In addition, the Division has achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification.
